TULJAPUR
Perched at an elevation of 2150 feet above the sea level this beautiful town on the Yamunachala ranges is famous for its ancient and spectacular shrines. Also the old world charm of the Marathas can be felt here. This beautiful place is named Tuljapur as it hosts the famous Tulja Bhavani Temple. This stunning temple town is located at the end of the plain where the Solapur highway just begins.
The crowning glory of Tuljapur is the Tulja Bhavani Temple, where pilgrims in millions mainly from Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and other parts of India come every year to seek her blessings. History says that Tulja Bhavani was the main Goddess of the prestigious Bhonsale dynasty and Shivaji Maharaj would pay a visit to this temple and seek the Goddess’s blessings before setting off to a journey.
Apart from Tulja Bhavani temple this small town is also popular for other places like Ghat Shila Temple, Chintamani, Bharathi Buwa mutt etc. The fort of Naldurg and the Dharashiv caves close by are worth visiting.
This pious town comes alive with fairs and carnivals during the Navrathri and provides feast to the onlookers’ eyes. This is a perfect place to relax and rejuvenate the mind.
PLACES TO SEE
GhatShila Temple : In history it is said that Tulja Bhavani matha stood on the hills (Ghat) and directed Rama and Laksmana to Lanka who were on their way searching for Seeta. This spiritually important place is visited by many devotees. Recently a children’s park has been developed by the temple trust.
Chintamani (Analysing pearl) : Chintamani is believed to be a goddess who helps people in analysing what is right and wrong. She guides people to move on the right track. People throng in huge numbers on Tuesdays, fullmoon days and Sundays to fill their eyes with the procession of the goddess.
Dhakte Bhavani : This temple is located away from the bustle of the crowds which hosts the idol of Mahishasurmardini Bhavani recovered from Rama Vithoba Mali field. A visit to this temple must be paid inorder to complete the pilgrimage successfully.
Paapnashi Teerth : This holy tank is about 1km from the temple. It is believed that taking bath in this holy water will wash off one’s sins and make him/her pure.

By Air : Pune which is about 300kms from Tuljapur has the nearest airport. Cabs are available from the airport.
By Train : Nearest railway station to Tuljapur is at Solapur (45 kms). Solapur is well connected to major towns and cities.
By Bus : State buses play from Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur to Tuljapur.
