PANDHARPUR
The city of Pandharpur is famed for scores of temples and holy places. Being one of the most popular pilgrimage centre of Maharashtra it is about 65kms from Sholapur and proudly stands on the banks of Bhimavathi River.
The glory of Pandharpur is the “Vittala Temple”, dedicated to Lord Krishna. Pilgrims in millions come every year to seek his blessings. There is a small story related to the temple that says, Lord Vittala came down to earth to stay and serve his faithful devotee Pundalik. Vittala is also popularly addressed as Vithoba, Panduranga, Pandhari by his devotees. The idol of the lord is believed to be about 1600 years old. Namdev the 13th century saint had close relations with this temple. Namdev gate is the name given to the eastern entrance of the temple. Alandi-Pandharpur Yatra is also popular among devotees.
It is famous pilgrimage place for Hindus and fantastic tourist destination filled with culture, heritage, scenic beauty and ancient temples. The congregation of the temples of Rukmini, Vishnupad and Pandurang located in this region enhances the prominence of Pandharpur as a pilgrim centre.
PLACES TO SEE
Vishnupad Temple : This ancient temple is located in the centre of the Chandrabhaga river. This beautiful stone temple is well supported by 16 strong pillars. The footprints of Lord Krishna is the main attraction of the temple. This temple can be visited only in summer and winter seasons as in the rainy season the temple will be under water.

By Air – Pune Airport is about 205 kms.
By Rail – Pandharpur has a railway station but Solapur which is about 75kms is a convenient station.
By Road – Pune-Pandharpur, 204 kms and Mumbai – Pandharpur is 386 kms. Many private and Govenment buses connect the places.
