Gulbarga district is one of the 30 districts of southern state of Karnataka.  Gulbarga city is the headquarters for administration of the district.  In Persian language, Gul means flower and berg means leaf thus making Gulberga once a land of lavish living. This district is surrounded by Bijapur district on the West and Solapur district of Maharashtra, Bidar district and Osmanabad district of Maharashtra state on the North, Yadgir district on the south, and Ranga Reddy district of Andhra Pradesh state on the East.  It was previously part of Nizam's Hyderabad state.  Gulbarga is about 200 km from Hyderabad and 623 km north of Bangalore.

Gulbarga History

With the capture of the Deccan by Aurangezeb in 17th century, Gulbarga returned back to the Mughal Empire.  When Mughal Empire was declining Asaf Jha a general of Aurangzeb did become independent and formed the Hyderabad State in the early parts of the 18th century, which was also a major part of Gulbarga area included.  Hyderabad state became a part of Indian Union in 1948 and in 1956, with exclusion of two talukas, which were annexed to Andhra Pradesh the rest of taluks of Gulbarga district became part of New Mysore State

Gulbarga Climate

Gulbarga weather consists of three main seasons.  The summer extends from February to June, followed by the monsoon, which extends from late June to late September, and finally the dry winter weather until mid-January.

Gulbarga has beautiful temples in and around to visit, namely: Shri Sharanbasveshwar Temple, Shri Kshetra Ganagapur, a famous pilgrimage of God Shri Sadguru Dattatreya Narasimha Saraswati, Sri. Hulakantheshwar Temple, and the Ghathargi Bhagamma Temple situated on the bank of Bhima river.

Places of spiritual significance in Gulbarga are the Khwaja Bande Nawaz Dargah, Sharanabasaveshwar Temple, Buddha Vihar and Sheikh Roza Dargah.  Followers from around the world visit these places of worship.
