SOLAPUR Solapur is a typical Maharashtrian village with a calm, quiet ambiance is famous for its spectacular scenic beauty, renowned temples and valiant fort. Solapur was not a well known tourist place till recent times but slowly and steadily it is becoming popular among the tourists.
The prominent attraction of this place is Siddheswar temple, which is beautifully placed in the middle of the lake. Motibaug Tank also famously called the Kambar Talao offers treat to the bird lovers, many varieties of birds flock the tank during the winter. One can enjoy the cool breeze and experience the twittering of lovely birds, without any interference. The floating white and pink lotuses add charm to the beauty of the lake. The ancient Revansiddheswar temple is located close-by to the tank. Fort Bhuikot arouses curiosity in the history buffs. Ekrukh Hipparga Talao with lush green surroundings provides continuous water supply to Solapur.
There are many famous pilgrimage places surrounding Solapur. Tuljapur, which is famous for its Amba Bhavani temple is about 40 kms from Solapur. The waterfalls in Nar and Madhi which is about 45 kms from Solapur offers a rejuvenating feeling to the onlookers. Pandhrapur is about 60 kms.
This place with many amazing spectacles can emerge as a major tourist destination if proper care is taken by the government in renovating and maintaining the prominent attractions.
PLACES TO SEE
Siddeshwara Temple : This is a beautiful temple is spectacularly placed in the midst of the lake. This stunning temple was constructed by the Lingayat saint Shri Siddharameshwar in five acres area. Well-maintained garden of this shrine offers the people to relax the body and mind in calm and cool ambience. The coconut trees beautifully lined in the background of the Solapur fort is mind blowing. A temple dedicated to saint Nalavatvad is found in the middle of the garden. Vithoba and Goddess Rukhmini temple, nandi statue are found.
Hutatma Chowk : Hutatma Chowk is a famous circle in the centre of the city which proudly consists of the statues of the freedom fighters Shri. Mallappa Dhanshetti, Shri. Kurban Hussain, Shri. Jagnnath Shinde and Shri. Kisan Sarda who were hanged to death for killing two policemen.
Great Indian Bustard Sanctuary : It was founded by B.S. Kulkarni in 1971. It consists of many varieties of fauna and avian flock.

By Air- Solapur airport has flights to the Mumbai airport. Mumbai being the major transport hub, connects to all major cities.
By Railway route- Solapur has direct trains to Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Pune, Thiruvanantapuram, Vijayawada etc.
By Bus route- Government and private buses ply from Pune on a regular basis. Buses from Mumbai, Kolhapur, Aurangabad, Nashik are also available.
