PLACES TO SEE
Rangaswamy Peak and Pillar: The Rangaswamy Peak is conical structure that is at a height of about 5855 feet above sea level. It is situated at 20 km from Kotagiri. This peak is sacred for Nilgiris people, adding holiness to this natural beauty. The hill on which it is situated is considered extremely sacred and legends have it that Lord Rangaswamy lived here when he left home to be alone. On the rocks of this hill just after the Arakadu village lie two footprints that stand for evidence. This place of worship is visited by number of pilgrims. The Rangaswamy Pillar is found on the north-west of the peak. It rises in splendour to a height of about 400 feet as an isolated rock pillar with unclimbable steep sides.
Catherine Falls The Catherine waterfalls is an attractive tourist spot located around 8 km away from Kotagiri. This falls was named after the wife of a European called M.D.Cockburn a coffee planter of Kotagiri. This double-cascaded Falls is the second uppermost in the district about 250 ft and it waters from the upper stream of the kallar river crossed by the unseen Mettupalyam-Ooty road beyond the mountains in the south-west. Elk Falls Elk Falls is located 7 km from Kotagiri and situated above the village Uyilathi and located on the main route to Mettupalayam in the Nilgiri District. An European House, built during the British ruling, can be seen in close proximity to the waterfall. The perfect period to trip the waterfall is during the monsoon the site is always worth of visit.
Kodanaad View point: Kodanad is name of a small village; Kodanaad View point located around 16 km away from Kotagiri in the Nilgiri District. From this view point one can see Rangasamy Peak, Rangasamy Pillar, Catherine Falls and Dolphin's Nose, Mysore Plateau, Valleys.
Longwood Shola Longwood Shola is a wooded forest located right next to Kotagiri on the Nilgiris. It is a tropical evergreen forest and host to the enormously fragile ecosystem of the Nilgiris and expands on an area of around 116 hectares. It has a attractive trekking pathway that allows visitors to walk through the picturesque settings of this peaceful forest
