It is one of the 32 districts of Tamil Nadu. It was formed with the taluks such as Avinashi, Palladam, Dharapuram, Kangeyam, Madathukulam and Udumalpet in 2008. These taluks are formerly belonged to Coimbatore and Erode districts. This high revenue yielding district is famous for textiles and butter.Administrative headquarters is in Tiruppur city. The textile city is located on the banks of River Noyyal. The city is otherwise called as Dollar city and was a part of ancient Kongu Nadu. It is an important textile hub and provng employment for large-scale of unskilled workers. In 1986, it wasupgraded as special grade Municipality and in 2008 it was declared as Municipal Corporation.

Tiruppur History

The ancient Tiruppur was flourished in agriculture and was ruled by Cholas. The region is very fertile and serves as commercial hub for cotton and vegetables. The oldest temple in this region is Vishwareswara temple. The Lingam located here was left by one of the Chola king when he carried the idol to Kasi. Tiruppur Kumaran is one of the great freedom fighter who was killed in patriotic march against British. The road was after named as Kumaran Road. K.N.Palaniswamy is another famous figure here. K.N.P is otherwise called as Father of Thiruppur. This is the place where former chief minister Annadurai and E.V Ramaswamy were met which was considered as an important turning point in Indian Political history.

Tiruppur Climate

Tiruppur was guarded by parts of Western Ghats. The boundaries are Coimbatore district in the west, Erode district to the North and northeast and Karur district in the east and Dindigul district in the south east. The maximum rainfall is in southern and western regions of this district and rest of the district is lies in rain shadow region. The salubrious climate is experienced in most of the months. The average temperature is between 35 C and 18 C. Average rainfall is 700 mm.
