The famous hill resort of Coonoor lies in the lap of the Niligiri Hills. In fact Coonoor is located is an altitude of 1800 m. Geographically speaking, Coonoor lies at the head of Hulikal ravine. In the lap of nature and the Niligiri Hills Coonoor is a picturesque hill resort. Since long the hill resort of Coonoor has attracted the holidaymakers, nature lovers, adventure seekers, film directors et al alike. The rich flora and fauna add to the beauty of the hill resort. The other famous hill resort of the Nilgiris is that of Ooty/ Udhagamandalam/ Ootacamund. Besides nature spots Coonoor offers opportunities for adventure sports like trekking and hiking too. Silk Rearing Station
Silk Rearing Station is one of the important institutions positioned in the country. The station is located next to the Pasteur Institute and is a premier institution that conducts research on silk rearing. Maintained by the Central Silk Board, the rearing station is one of a kind in the country. Sericulture experts from around the world engage themselves in intensive research activities at the institute.  

Laws Falls
Laws Falls is one of the popular tourist locations that features a beautiful waterfall. The water falls from an altitude of 180 ft, creating a pool of water on the fall. Located on  Coonoor-Mettupalayam road, travellers can advance to the site from Coonoor, which is  7 km from Laws Falls. A popular sight for tourists, Laws Falls is named after Col. Law, who traced the water path and also constructed the Coonoor Ghat. Coonoor Ghat is a beautiful watercourse  on the Coonoor river, joining junction with the Mettupalayam Ghat Road. The spring fall is positioned at a distance of 5 km from Coonoor at the middle of Coonoor and Kateri rivers.

HOW TO REACH

By Air
Coimbatore Peelamdeu Airport situated at a distance of 70 kms from Coonoor is the nearest airport linking it to the major cities like Chennai and Bangalore.

By Train
Coimbatore located near the the hill station is a major junction which is linked with all the prime cities. There is also Nilgiri Mountain Railway Service available between Ooty and Mettupalaym having stoppage at Coonoor.

By Bus
One can easily get State owned bus service on a regular basis from Ooty, Coimbatore and other cities in TamilNadu which conveniently link it with Coonoor. The availability of private buses regularly running from Ooty and Coimbatore to Coonoor also make journey by bus a smooth experience.

WEATHER
Coonoor experiences cool and pleasant weather all through the year. The hill resort has summer months from April to June, which are mild. Though the winters that last from November to February and are cool. Between July and September the southwestern monsoons hit Coonoor. Thus making the time from October to March the best to visit Coonoor.
