Vijaydurg fort is the highlight of this beautiful place. This wonderful historic fort mesmerizes the visitors with its imposing facade. Dhulap palatial house is famous for its Maratha style paintings. Rameshwar temple about 3kms from Girye is famous for its wooden carvings and sculptures. 

 The main attraction in the place is the long stretches of clean beaches that have been unaffected by the advent of tourism.

Vijagdurg fort : Vijaydurg fort is the highlight of this beautiful place. This wonderful historic fort mesmerizes the visitors with its imposing facade. This fort was earlier called the Gheria fort. Shivaji Maharaj after conquering it from the Adilshah of Bijapur named it the Vijaydurg fort. The fort occupies an area of 17acres and is flanked by the Arabian on 3 sides. This invulnerable fort has a 40km long waghotan/kharepatan creek as a natural protection. Entry of the enemy warship was almost impossible in the shallow waters. The 200 m long man made tunnel from the fort to the Dhulap’s palatial house is marvellous. Another interesting feature of the fort is the strong 8-10m under-water wall surrounding the fort. This wall was built to protect the fort from the enemy ships.

Vijaydurg is about 500km from Mumbai and about 180km from Panaji.

Kankavli which is about 80kms from Vijaydurg is the nearest railway station.
