KUNKESHWAR

 Kunkeshwar is famous for temples and calm beach. Kunkeshwar temple is well known for its beautiful sculptures and architecture. It was constructed in 1100 A D by the Yadav kings. Shivaji Maharaj paid frequent visits to this temple. It is also famous as the “Kashi” of the South Konkan region. Devotees gather in large numbers to seek the blessings of Lord Shiva on the occasion of Mahashivrathri.

 The beach has a 5km stretch. Sometimes friendly dolphins are spotted, diving in the blue sea. The beach has a green canopy of coconut and mango trees.

 Kunkeshwar is famous for the lip-smacking Alphonso Mango. It is also exported to The US,UK and Gulf countries. 

The never-ending sea with its vast stretch of stunning seashore evokes a rejuvenating feeling.  It is a perfect place to spend the weekend and remain far from the noise and pollution of the city.

                                                   PLACES TO VISIT

Kunkeshwar Cave : This cave is located near-by to the Kunkeshwar temple. It consists of majestic idols of Lord Shiva and Ganesha and a Shiv linga. It is a delight to see the carvings of the male and the female warriors on the black rock.

Kunkeshwar Beach : It has a grand 5km stretch and mesmerizes the visitors with white sand and calm waters. Lucky ones can spot a dolphin diving into the blue sea.

Vijaydurg Fort : This ancient fort was constructed during the rule of Raja Bhoja. It is one of the oldest forts. It is about 3kms from The Rameshwar temple, Girye. It is surrounded by the roaring Arabian on 3 sides.

Gajbadevi Temple : This temple is situated in Devgad where goddess Gajba is the main diety.  It is believed that this temple has close relationship with the Kunkeshwar temple.

By Air: Nearest airport  is in Goa (186 Kms). Kunkeshwar is about 490kms from Mumbai airport.

By Train: Kankavli and Nandgaon Railway stations are 49 and 42 Kms respectively.

By Road: Pune-Kunkeshwar is 387 Kms. Kolhapur-Kunkeshwar is 160 Kms. Mumbai-Kunkeshwar is 492 Kms. Private and Government bus services are provided.
