Varkala is a fabulous beach destination in Kerala, located 51 km from state capital Thiruvanathapuram. It is beautiful place where hills are close to sea. Besides being a popular beach flavor, Varkala is a sacred religious destination too and most popular among tourists for the clean and pristine stretch.  Paragliding and Parasailing are greatly enjoyed here. It is an excellent center for rejuvenating ayurvedic treatments. Backwater cruising is another prime attraction which grabs visitors throughout the year.

It is one of the well known memorials of guru Shri Narayana Guru, located peacefully on the banks of Thiruvananthapuram-Shoranur canal. The famous festivals celebrated here are Guru Deva Jayanthi and Guru Deva Samadhi in the month of August. The proximity of the Varkala beach made this sacred mutt more serene. 

The beautiful temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu, located at a distance of 25 km from Thiruvananthapuram.  Aarattu is the grand festival where ornaments like peacock fans, umbrella made of silk and other decorative ornaments of deity Vishnu are carried by caparisoned elephants is made this secluded atmosphere as pomp and show. It is the finest evidence of typical south-Indian style temple. 

It is the most famous beach of Varkala, located 54 km from Thiruvanathapuram and a perfect place to hang on. It offers great relief from day to day tensions. The swaying palms, sizzlingfreeze, soft and golden make this beach as virtual paradise.

Papanasam beach, Kappil beach, Vettkkada beach, Kappill Lake, Sarkara Devi temple, Sanjeeva Aurveda center, Varkala lighthouse and Varkala tunnel are other popular places.

Trivandrum airport is the nearest airport to reach Varkala.

Varkala has its own railhead and has more train frequency receiving trains arriving from Trivandrum and Cochin.

State owned and private buses are well connecting  Varkala to state capital Trivandrum.
