Pasighat

In the year 1911, Pasighat, a town in the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh, was founded. It is the most ancient town of Arunachal Pradesh. The East Siang District’s headquarters is situated in this town of Pasighat. The tag line of “gateway of Arunachal Pradesh” has been given to Pasighat. Many a number of interesting and intriguing locations are there in and around Pasighat. From the term ‘Pasis’, which is the name of a tribe in this region, the name Pasighat came into existence.

The elevation of the town of Pasighat is 155 meters above the sea level. The summer months witness a hot and humid weather and the winter months remain temperate. Because of the location of Pasighat and locations in and around this place, that is they are located right in the central part of Arunachal Pradesh, these areas are known as the heart of Arunachal Pradesh. For tourists as well as for a photographer, this place is an ideal location for visiting, because of the presence of the spectacular backdrop of mountains, hills and the luxuriously green river beds and meadows. These regions are dwelled in, by tribal communities. This place is perfect for people, who want to connect with Mother Nature and its many gifts. The hustle bustle of the daily city life can be avoided and thus it offers a serene and calm environment for those who seek it. All the way from Tibet, the river Siang, a magnificent Brahmaputra River, flows down to this place. Thus the name of district came into being. This river passes across the complete region and then it moves downward into Assam’s plain valleys, in the south direction of the town of Pasighat. Eventually it converges with the river Dihang and Lohit and then comes to be known as Brahmaputra. The place contains some kind of a magic and appeal, which induces the tourists to come back here, time after time. 

                                       TOURIST PLACES IN PASIGHAT

Daying Ering Wild Life Sanctuary: The distance between the Daying Erning Wild Life Sanctuary and Pasighat is a mere 13 Kms. This sanctuary is counted among the few numbers of sanctuaries, which are situated on an island. In order to arrive at this sanctuary, one needs to travels in the Siang River in a boat. Migratory birds such as Cranes, Wild Ducks, Storks, Water Fowls and Hornbills can be seen here during the months between September and February. For bird lovers, this place is a paradise. Some animals, which are also common here, are the Deer, Wild Elephants, Buffaloes and other smaller predators. Catching a sight of a tiger is rare, however tourists may get lucky!

Pangin: At the convergence point of rivers Siom and Siang, this place is located. The distance between Pasighat and this magnificent location is 60 Kms. Here, a picturesque sight can be seen, where the sparkling blue waters of Siom unites with the green glow of Siang’s.

                                         HOW TO REACH PASIGHAT

Airport: Dibrugarh and Guwahati have the closest air terminals. Helicopters flights can also be taken from Dibrugarh and Itanagar, in order to reach this place.

Railhead: Murkong Selek has the closest railway station. The distance between Pasighat and the station is a mere 35 Kms. Buses and private cars or taxis can be hired to come here.

Road Transport: From Guwahati, Itanagar and Lakhimpur, buses and other private cars or taxis offer their services of transportation.
