West Siang, which is an administrative district in the state of Arunachal Pradesh in India, is having its HQ at Aalo. It shares borders on the North by China, on the East by Upper Siang & East Siang districts, on the South by Assam and on the West by Upper Subansiri & Lower Subansiri districts of Arunachal Pradesh. It is the homeland of various tribes like Galo, Minyong, Bori, Bokar, Pailibo, Ramos, Memba and forms a natural home for various species of orchids, diverse flora, fauna endowed with a dense vegetation, and a wide range of climatic and geographical variations. The district enjoys a moderate and comfortable climate. In the year 1989, the territory was given from West Siang to the East Siang district. Since the year 1999, this territory has been in the new Upper Siang district. Languages spoken in the district include Adi, a Sino-Tibetan tongue with approximately 140 000 speakers, written in both the Tibetan and Latin scripts and Galo, an endangered language with 30 000 speakers, also in the Sino-Tibetan language family.
