Kolkata in its Religious tradition apart from the places, Kolkata in religious text is quite famous as well. It is well known for different festivals. Kolkatas most renowned festival is Durga Puja which is celebrated during the month of September or October. Thousands of tourists come here during this time from various parts of India as well as world, just to watch and enjoy the festival. The whole city is decorated with colorful lights and one might discover Puja pandals at very corner of the lane. It is celebrated for four days and people pray Goddess Durga, the God of the power with an unadulterated mind. The Christmas night is something that one must not miss in Kolkata. It is called a gala night or the night of celebration. This famous festival is celebrated by all the religions.

Kolkata a place of sweets�- Rosgulla is the most famous sweet of Kolkata. Apart from the places, scenic beauty and festivals another foremost attraction of the tourists is the Bengalis famous dish Rosgullas. It is quite famous and delicious as well. It is cheese based, syrupy dish of Bengalis and popular among all the religions. 

Places to visit in Kolkata

Kolkata is unique in its own way. There are countless of glorious places in Kolkata to visit or worth seeing.

Victoria memorial-   the foremost attraction which is considered to be Kolkatas delight.  It is one of the finest art museum in Kolkata where people from different corners of the world come to visit. It is in the midst of a large garden with a small pond. This is a museum filled with varied portrait of ancient epoch.

Birla planetarium-  located nearby Victoria memorial, a place where one can enjoy the view of the solar system, galaxy and heavenly bodies. It is the place where one gets to know many unknown facts about our planets and other terrestrial bodies. It is the one of the largest museum of Asia. It has an astronomy gallery that has a huge collection of fine paintings and celestial models.

Howrah bridge- Howrah Bridge also called Rabindra Setu located over Hooghly River is one of the busiest bridge of the world.  The marvelous construction of the bridge is something that definitely will raise ones eyebrow. It is said to be Kolkatas pride.

 Nicco Park-  one of the famous amusement park which has lots of interesting, adventurous and attention-grabbing rides.  It is not only a place for kids but also place of fun and entertainment for adults as well. It has a ropeway, flying saucer; merry-go-round, water shoot, cyclone, water cave etc are some of the interesting and exciting rides. It has a water park attached to it which is the replica of a sea.

Fort William-  the attractive fort that enhances the beauty of Kolkata. The Fort worth seeing-its decoration, architectural style, gigantic building.  

Science city-  a most famous and often crowded with lots of tourists is another attraction of Kolkata. A place for both children and adults. A place where one can learn different things about science with demonstration and experiments. It has a small amusement park where people take rests or have fun. It has models of Dianoserous. 

Aquatic-   This is one of the famous water park which is more or less an imitation of a sea with various audacious and adventurous water-rides.

Indian museum and Nehru museum  Indian museum is considered to be one of the great archeological centre of India where one get to see many ancient things such as mummy, old coins, skeletons of different animals that does not have any existence now, test tube baby and many other things  of attraction. And Nehru museum which is famous as Children Museum has a huge collection of varieties of Dolls. Here the story of The Ramayana and The Mahabharata has been displayed with models.

Millennium Park-  a park exactly on the bank of River Ganges. From this place the tourists can enjoy a ride on launch on River Ganga. This is an amusement park.

South city Mall-  a very popular mall in Kolkata or among the citizens of Kolkata. This is an ideal place for shopping. Different branded clothes, equipments, house hold goods, shoes etc are available here with many restaurants. This is considered to be the biggest mall in India. And it attracts large number of tourists every year who enjoy shopping over here.

National library- it is the largest library of our country. It has a huge collection of books and periodicals received from the different parts of the country. Even the books of different language are available here. 

Eden garden of Kolkata- it is basically a cricket stadium. It is one of the finest and oldest playground of our country.  The first match took place in the year 1917-18. This place must be visited by the tourists and it is beautiful in its own way.

Nalban boating complex-   a large lawn with a giant lake which is the main attraction of the place. It is very popular for its scenic beauty and boating. It has a mesmerizing natural beauty with its crystal clear lake water.

Dakheneswar temple- a huge temple, located exactly on the bank of river Ganges with an idol of Goddess Kali. It is one of the renowned temple in Kolkata. It falls into the category of must see places.

  How to reach Kolkata

By AIR Kolkata has both its National and International Airport popularly known as Netaji Subhas Bose Airport.  It is well linked with all the parts of India as well as abroad. Outside the airport taxi or cab is always available. It would take the tourists to any part of Kolkata and charge accordingly.

By TRAIN Kolkata has two major terminal stations Howrah and Sealdah. These two stations are well linked to all major metropolitan cities or state of our country.

By BUS Bus is available from all the parts of West Bengal. It takes few hours to reach Kolkata from any parts of the West Bengal.

 Best time to visit Kolkata

Basically Kolkata experiences moderate climate. October to March is the ideal time to visit Kolkata. The weather is very pleasant during this time and also this is the festive month.
