Karnala is a heaven for bird-lovers. It is located in the Raigad district. Nature lovers can have a pleasant walk amidst the green canopy to the magnificent fort which is located in the centre of the sanctuary. Rare birds such as Three toed Kingfisher, Malabar Trogon are spotted here. It is a home of  king vulture,crested serpent eagle which are facing the threat of extinction. The commonly spotted wildlife are four-horned antelope, wild boar, common langur, African monkeys and Barking Deer.

 Karnala is also of historical importance. Karnala fort oversees the Bhor pass, which connects Vidharbha with the Konkan coast. It was an ancient trade route. Karnala comprises of two forts, one at a higher level and other at the lower level. At the higher fort is a 125 feet pillar called the “Pandu Tower”, was a watchtower. On the fort walls writings in Persian and Marathi can be witnessed.

 Come to this enchanting place and imbibe yourself with the fabulous spectacles .

Shiva Temple:  It is located in the NH-17 on the way to Pen. It is a feast to the eyes with land-scaped gardens and has beautiful idols of Lord Shiva and Parvathi.

Sanctuary is open to the public throughout the year. The best time to visit the avian flock is between October to April.

By Air :  Mumbai airport is about 50kms from here.

By Train :  Panvel station is a central station which is about 12kms from the sanctuary.

By Road : All the buses from Konkan-Mumbai stops at Panvel. Auto can be hired from here.
