Places to visit in English Bazar
Gour- it is a historical place which is located just few kilometers away from Malda. The foremost attraction of this place is its archaeological treasure. It has places such as Dakhil Darwaza, Bara Sona Mosque, Lattan Mosque, Qadam Rasul Mosque, Firoz Minar, and Gomti Gate.
Dakhil Darwaza- it is a fort which is situated at the bank of River Bhagirathi. Dakhil Darwaza is the name of the main gate which serves as the main entrance to the fort. It is a red brick building with terracotta work on the wall. This marvelous work is something worth seeing by all.
Firoz Minar- it is a historic tower that is situated on the southern part of Dakhil Darwaza. This tower is 26m length with 84 steps which would led one to the top. It is the imitation of Qutub Minar. In this place the tourists can have a glimpse of Tughlaqi style of architecture.
Baroduari- it is a historical rectangular structure. The spectacular view of this place attracts tourists every year. It has eleven doors, though the name suggests twelve doors. It is the largest monument in Gaur and was constructed by Allauddin Hussein Shah.
Chika Masjid- it is a single-domed mosque that was built in the ancient epoch. It also has some features of Hindus. It is a holy place and visiting the place will surely purifies ones soul.
Lukochuri Darwaza- it is also a historical place and a place where the Sultans used to play hide and seek with their wives. Basically in this place the Sultans used to spend their leisure time with their soul mates. The prime attraction of this place is the architectural work of the building which is purely a Mughal style. The tourists get to see the Mughal form of architecture. The whole structure is plaster cover and it is a three storey which introduces flanking doors.
Pandua- it is also a historical place and the ruins of the place is still visible from Malda. Once upon a time during the prehistoric time this place used to be the capital of Bengal but later on shifted to Gaur.
Sagar Dighi- it is actually a gigantic and colossal tank built during the 12th century. It is surrounded by imperial buildings on all sides that enhance the beauty o this place. Every year migratory birds come here from far off places. It also has many historical places to visit.
Ramkeli- it is a village located 14kw away from Malda. It is a temporary home of a famous religious Bengali reformer who stayed there for few days on his way to Brindaban. In this place Sri Chaitanya used to meditate with his disciples. Now there is a small temple with footprints of Sri Chaitanya on a stone. It is a religious place and every year devotees from all the parts of the world come here.
