Yusmarg

Forty seven kilometers away from Srinagar lies Yusmarg. It forms part of the Badgam district. It takes a drive of two and a half hours to reach Yusmarg. The land is covered with lush green pastures and pine trees. The backdrop sees snow capped mountains that touch the horizon. It is an ideal picnic spot. One can take in the picturesque beauty while enjoying longs walks.

Nilnag: Nilnag is situated 4 kilometers from Yusmarg. It is a small lake surrounded by pine trees. It is a very beautiful spot.

Sanh-e-Safed: Sang-e-Safed is situated 10 kilometers away from Yusmarg. It is a lake which remains frozen all the year round. It is an ideal place for trekkers. The weather at the top changes very frequently, hence the trekkers are advised to take their tents and other things along with them. Guides are available to aid in your trekking.

Tosa Maidan: Tosa Maidan is a large meadow. It was once used for cattle grazing by the nomads. Now it is a very suitable ground for trekking. Places like Gulmarg and Poonch are close by. The place has healing properties. The atmosphere is calm and serene.

Skiing: Skiing is a common activity in Yusmarg. In fact, it is the first thought that comes to the minds of the tourists. Skiing trips are also organized by several schools, both local and outside the state. Tourists usually make a plan for a week to fully enjoy and the beautiful natural slopes. Travel Agents make arrangements for the trips to the various slopes.

Horse riding in Yusmarg: Another enjoyable activity that one can participate in Yusmarg after skiing is horse riding. It is very affordable. 

Buses are available only up to Tsar-e-Sharief. It is advised to opt for rented taxis from Srinagar. A better option would be to ask a reputed travel agent to arrange it for you. Due to excess snow during winters, the road from Tsar-e-Sharief to Yusmarg remains shut.
