Shopian District, with Shopia city as its administrative headquarters, is one of the districts of the state of Jammu and Kashmir. Shopian is located at a distance of 51 Kms from Srinagar and 20 Kms from Pulwama. It is well connected with Anantnag as well as Kulgam. Shopian was located on the famous Mughal road connecting Lahore and Srinagar of the previous age. Due to the negligence of the authorities, this route is now used only by the Bakerwals and Gujjars for their seasonal migration. Shopian is expected to be linked with the Districts of Poonch and Rajouri by the under construction Mughal road. It is expected to be a substitute link between the two administrative divisions of the state. The newly constructed road is likely to boost the economy of this proposed hill District. In addition, it will also increase the administrative responsibilities of the District administration in the times to come.
