                                                     PANHALA
Panhala is a nature’s gift for an enthusiastic tourist to take off from the day to day hardships of modern life. Perched at an elevation of 3180 feet, it is about 20kms from the pious city Kolhapur.  Panhala mesmerizes the tourists with its rich scenic beauty, spectacular monuments and dashing forts.
Panhala has close reference to the Maratha period. Historians believe that Shivaji Maharaj had spent two years in the famous Panhala fort. Panhala fort is the highlight of this place. There is a secret well on top of the fort, the wall slit holes alarms the insider of the outside danger.  This safest and strongest fort is surely a best example of the artistic excellence of the by-gone generation. Someshwar tank is also worth visiting.
This tiny hill with dust free and pollution free surrounding is best suited to undertake small treks and enjoy a lovely walk.
Panhala has very little for the hardcore adventurists but is a feast for the history buffs.

                                                   PLACES TO SEE

Panhala Fort : This majestic fort which is located at a height of 400 m above the land is considered to be one of the largest and safest forts of the Deccan region. The double-walled gate is the only means of entrance to the sturdy fort.  This fort was built by Bhoja II of the Shilahar dynasty in the 12th century. In the 16th century this fort was captured by King Shivaji which was under the control of the Bijapur kingdom. There is a secret well on top of the fort, the wall slit holes alarms the insider of the outside danger.  This safest and strongest fort is surely a best example of the artistic excellence of the by-gone generation.

Teen Darwaza : This Door which lies to the north of the fort is the main entrance to the fort. The well located in the Teen Darwaza played a prominent role in tackling the enemies.

Sajja Kothi : This structure was constructed by Ibrahim Adil Shah in the Bijapuri style. It provides majestic view of the underlying Waranna valley. This place was basically used to punish the guilty. Sambhaji was put to jail by his father here for his criminal activities.
