Medinipur one of the startling offbeat tourists destination in West Bengal which will be cherished for its serenity and peaceful environment. Many rivers cut its way through this place such as River Subarnarekha, Keleghai, Kangsabati, Dulongs and Silabati. These rivers are the main attraction of this place as it is hard to find so many rivers at the same place. Places to visit in Medinipur

Pathra- it is 10km away from Medinipur, situated at the bank of River Kangsabati. This is a village famous for its 34 temples.  These temples are maintained and taken care by the Archaeological Survey of India. The largest temple among this is Navratna Temple on the western bank of Kangsabati.  The marvelous terracotta work on the walls of this place is mesmerizing and it is 250yrs old. All this temples has a deity of Lord Krishna, Goddesses Radha, and Lord Ram. Therefore this place not only serves to be a tourists spot but also a pilgrim place and every year apart from the tourists this place visited by the devotees as well.

Medinipur town- the popular attraction of this town is Kali mandir and this town is located exactly at the confluence of Kanshabati River.  It also has a single dome tomb of Pir Lohani Baba. It is quite renowned for its terracotta work and the terracotta material is quite cheaper and easily available. Apart from the Hindu place of worship, it has many Christians and Muslim shrines as well.

Jonathan Temple-  a few km away from Medinipur which was constructed during the Ganga dynasty. The foremost attraction of this place is the spectacular and sensational design and decoration of the ancient era is something worth seeing.

Bahiri- it is popularly known for the ruins of four Buddha stupas namely Paltikri, Saptikri, Dhantikri and Godhantikri. This place has an Ashram of Lord Rama which is the foremost attraction of this place. This is an ancient Ashram and people from all over the world come here to visit the Ashram. It is a holy place that purifies ones soul.  It is surrounded by many small lakes which add beauty to this place.

Chandrokona- the fore most attraction of this place is the forts the Ramgard and Lalgard fort that were constructed by the Chauhans rulers. It has an idol of Lord Raghunath ji and Lalgard fort has a deity of Lord Giridhar. These two forts and the interior works of the forts are the centre of attraction of this place.

Karnagarh-   it is a rural community which is 10kms away from Medinipur. The centre of attraction of this place is the stone fort which is present a ruins but one can get to see the water tanks, barracks, temples, surrounding walls, temples etc. Even the tourists can get to see many temples of 17th century and its fabulous works. The Anadilinga Dandeshwar and Devi Bhagavati is the another main attraction of this place.

Egra- this place is famous for its Hatnagar Mahadeb temple which is designed in the Orissa style of architecture. Another attraction of this place is its pond Krishna Sagar. This place has a calm and tranquil ambience that refreshes the mind of the tourists. 

Dantan- it has an ancient temple of Samoleswar Mahadeb with a wide lake that enhance the beauty of the place. It is a must watch place and the tourists will return with a satisfying smile.

Gobindoji temple- it is also an ancient temple where tourists visit especially in the Danda festival. People come here with their family to enjoy this occasion; it can be visited any time of the year.

How to reach the place

By AIR The nearest airdrome of this place as it does not have its own airport. Taxi or cab is always available from the Kolkata airport.

By TRAIN It has its own railway station and it is well linked with all the parts of the country.

By BUS Regular buses are available from all the parts of West Bengal. It takes few hours to reach the place by bus.  It is the cheapest mode of transportation.

 Best time to visit the place

 Medinipur has a pleasant climate throughout the year. But the best time to visit the place is during autumn that starts from the end of September and lasts till 1st week of December.
