                                             Lepakshi

Lepakshi a tiny village of historical and archeological significance, located in Anantapur District of Andra Pradesh, 15 km from Karnataka border. It houses many ancient shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva, Vishnu and Lord Veerabadra. It is revitalising heritage site. Best alternate for a routine tourist spots. Glorious Kingdom of Vijayanagar is amazingly illustrated in mural paintings. One can sink into pleasure with the enormous natural beauty of this village. It is well known for the exquisite handcrafts. Nandhi Statue, carvings and inscriptions are the major attractions of Lepakshi. 

                                    PLACES TO SEE IN LEPAKSHI

Veerabadra Temple: Veerabadra Temple is the finest evidence of Vijayanagar style of architecture, located on a hillock called Kurma Saila. The temple is known for its antiquity and believed to be built by great Saint Agasthiyar. Some legends claims that this temple was built by Vijayanagar governors during  16th century. An excellent place for architectural puffs. 

Nandi Bull: Monolithic grand statue of Nandi is one of the largest sculpture of Lepakshi, located in the vicinity of veerabadra temple, measuring 4.5 m in height and 8.23 m in length, made of single granite stone is the highlighting feature in Lepakshi. 

Hindupur: Hindupur is a small village, renowned for its rich historical temples. Great Saint Sri ragavandrar mutt, Gayathri temple, Anjeneya swamy temples are the popular shrines visited by tourists. Surrappakunda Waterfalls is another attraction to get away from hectic city life and to rejoice.

Lepakshi Temple: An ancient 16th century temple one of the three shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva. There are two interior courts beautifully adorned with Lord Ganesha statue. Carving of the temple wall depicts various historical events and divine deities. Puranic  legends are seamlessly illustrated by the eight panels of temple which adorns ceiling of one of the temple hall called 'Hall of Dance'

                                  HOW TO REACH LEPAKSHI

By Air: Bangalore International Airport is closest one, located 100 km from Lepakshi. 

By Train: Hindupur railway station, located 12 km from Lepakshi is the nearest railway station.

By Bus: Several state owned and private buses are connecting Hindupur to major cities of India. From Hindupur, taxi and local buses are very frequent to Lepakshi.

Weather: Lepakshi will become  very hot during summer, Temperature ranges from 30 °C  and can rise upto 41°C. During Winter, 15°C  to 28°C . December to February months are best time to visit Lepakshi.
