Lepakshi
Lepakshi a tiny village of historical and archeological significance, located in Anantapur District of Andra Pradesh, 15 km from Karnataka border. It houses many ancient shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva, Vishnu and Lord Veerabadra. It is revitalising heritage site. Best alternate for a routine tourist spots. Veerabadra Temple: Veerabadra Temple is the finest evidence of Vijayanagar style of srchitecture, located on a hillock called Kurma Saila. The temple is known for its antiquity and believed to be buily by great Saint Agasthiyar. Some legends claims that this temple was built by Vijayanagar governors during 16th century. An excellent place for architectural puffs.
Nandi Bull: Monolithic grand statue of Nandi is one of the largest sculpture of Lepakshi, located in the vicinity of veerabadra temple, measuring 4.5 m in height and 8.23 m in length, made of single granite stone is the highlighting feature in Lepakshi.
Hindupur: Hindupur is a amall village, renowned for its rich historical temples. Great Saint Sri ragavandrar mutt, Gayathri temple, Anjeneya swamy temples are the popular shrines visited by tourists. Surrappakunda Waterfalls is another attraction to get away from hectic city life and to rejoice.
Lepakshi Temple: An ancient 16th century temple one of the three shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva. There are two interior courts beautifully adorened with Lord Ganesha statue. Carving of the temple wall depicts various historical events and divine deities. Puranic legends are seamlessly illustrated by the eight panels of temple which adorns ceiling of one of the temple hall called 'Hall of Dance'
