Hogenakkal is one of the tourist destinations. It is about 350 kms from Chennai and is only 200 kms from Bangalore. Hogenakkal is a small town in Tamil Nadu on the Tamil Nadu-Karnataka border, which is known for its waterfall. The Hogenakkal Waterfall is a famous picnic spot. It is located at a height of 750 feet in the Melagiri Hills. Its water is said to have healing powers. It is very close to Dharmapuri town. The falls is the entry point of the river Cauvery from Karnataka into Tamilnadu and is a small version similar to the Niagara. The word Hogenakkal is made of two words, Hoge and Kal. Hoge in Kannada means smoke and Kal means rocks. Hence, the Hogenakkal means smoky rocks. The river when falls on the rocks below, then the gushing force of the water looks like as if smoke is coming from the rocks so this place is as Hogenakkal. This is the place where you can take bath along with the oil massage.
