Ramanagara district is one of the 30 districts in the southern state of Karnataka.  Ramanagara city is the headquarters for administration of the district. The city was ruled by the British Officer in the year 1800-01 by "Sir Byari Close", hence Ramanagara was earlier called as closepet, it was then renamed as ramanagara by Sri Kengal Hanumanthaiah, former Chief Minister of Karnataka. The city is located about 622.80 meters above the sea level and receptive of an average rainfall of 931.58 mm yearly.  It is located along the Bangalore-Mysore Highway No.17 around 50 km from capital Bangalore. In 1995, the city municipal council Ramanagaram was formed.  Ramanagaram city is the heart for sericulture activities with 2000 Silk reeling and twisting households units in the city and it is also one of the major cocoon markets in Asia.  Ramanagaram is also well-known for its huge rocks and these rocks that form the landscape of the Handi-gundi reserve forest in Ramanagaram are 2.6 billion years old.

Ramanagara Tourism

Ramanagara hills have been the first rock climbing areas in South India.  Mountaineers have been tasking technical climbing from 1960s onwards.  Those that are famous for rock climbing are; Ramadevarabetta, SRS betta and Thenginkalbetta.  The region has many lofty granitic hills, which are well known for many short rock climbs, typically 1 to 2 pitches in length
