Haridwar
Haridwar is a popular and very sacred Hindus pilgrimage center in India. It literally means Gateway of God. The famous religious destination is in Uttarakhand state of India at an altitude of 249.7 meters from the sea level. It spreads across 2360 sq km and experiences both hot summer and cold winter. Indian culture and civilizations are depicted in its fullest form in Haridwar. The region was mentioned in several Hindus mythologies. The descent of Ganga River touches Haridwar before it takes its fullest course. It is the gateway to Char Dham which means the four religious centers such as Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri which promises a great experience to the visitors. One of the oldest belief is that anyone takes the sacred ablution in the holy River Ganga will achieve the salvation. It is needless to say that religious festivals are celebrated with great gaiety and pomp. Kumbh Mela is the top most attraction of Haridwar which is conducted once in every 12 years. Other well-known festivals are Kavad Mela, Somvati Amavasya and Ganga Dussehra. Apart from its temple treasures and religious significance, it is one of the bustling hubs of shopping and wildlife sanctuaries.
Places to visit
Manasa Devi Temple
It is a famous temple, dedicated to Goddess Manasa devi who is wife of sacred serpent Vasuki. One of the Sidhapeeth is located on the top of Shivalik Hills. It offers a picturesque view of Haridwar.
Har Ki Pauri
It is considered as exit point of sacred river Ganga from mountain to plains. It was known as Brahm Kund which was built by King Vikramaditya. It emit splendid aura of lights and chants in the evening.
Harat Mata Mandir
This is devoted to patriotic nationals and was found by Swami Satyamitranand Giri. It is locatedat Sapta Sarovar at an elevation of 180 feet. Each floor depicts various legends, mythologies and deities.
Other Places
Chilla Wildlife Sanctuary, Sapt Rishi Ashram, Moti Bazaar, Udan Khatola, Maya Devi Temple, Vaishno Devi temple, Kushavarta Ghat and Chandi Devi temple are other popular places n Haridwar.
