Chandipur 

Chandipur is one of the many beautifully gifted beaches of Odisha. The place is full of Casuarinas and sand dunes. A very unique feature of this beach is that the sea water recedes away from the shore line about 5 kilometers twice a day. The water vanishes and then comes forth rhythmically. It appears as if the sea plays hide and seek.

The waves here are calm. They do not come dashing and hit the shore, rather proceed and recede in a rhythm. Hordes of people gather to this beach to experience this unique phenomenon of nature.

When the water recedes, the beach appears wider. You can enjoy a jeep ride. Also, the sea creatures lay on the exposed beach which appears beautiful. Red crabs and sea shells are most common. It is safer and more pleasurable to take a dip in the waters.

                                                  Places to visit:

Panchalingesar: This place has 5 statues of Lord Shiva also known as Lingam. A perennial stream runs over them. It is also known as a Saiva Shrine. One needs to lie down on the rock parallel to the stream and worship the lingams. Elephants are spotted. It is an ideal spot for trekkers. Accommodations are made available for night stays by the Odisha Tourism.

 Remuna: It is situated 25 kilometers from Chandipur. It is famous for the shrine of Khirachora Gopinath. It was the seat for the Vaishnavite culture for a long time. It is believed that Sri Chaitanya along with his teacher Madhavendrapuri and disciple Jeevaswamin Goswami came to visit this place and worship the lord. The most special offering in this temple is ‘Khira’ which is a special kind of milk.

Nilagiri: It is situated 40 kilometers from Chandipur. It is suitable for trekking. It has a sanctuary called as the Kuldiha Sanctuary. Jagannath Temple is also present here.  

Similipal: It is situated 100 kilometers from Chandipur. It covers an area of about 2750 square kilometers. It is one of the few Tiger Reserves in India. It has many species of animals within its boundaries, such as, leopards, elephants, deer, crocodiles and reptiles. There are over 230 species of birds including the talking myna and dancing peacocks. Lush green forests surround the area. Waterfalls and orchids are also found within the boundaries of this reserve.

How to reach:

By air: The nearest airport is Bhubaneswar which is 230 kilometers away. The next nearest airport is Kolkata which is 314 kilometers away.

By rail: Balasore is the nearest station which is 16 kilometers away. It is well connected with major cities of the country via fast trains.

By road: A well built road connects Chandipur to other major cities within the state.
