Baripada

Baripada is majorly known for its textile heritage. Chandapur handloom products attract massive crowds. These come in vibrant colors and exhibit variety of designs. People who take keen interest in regional textiles will be delighted. Kitching stone carvings are other major attraction.

Baripada is also referred to as the “Shopper’s paradise of the tribal land”. Bandigiposi tusser silk is world renowned and it is to be found on this land. Although it is available in the other parts of the state of Orissa as well as India, it is available at a very low price in Baripada. The quality is also good.

Goddess Kichakeswar temple: 

A place named Kitching, which is known for its stone carvings, is situated near Baripada. It used to be the capital of Bhania rulers. It has many temples which are famous amongst the regional crowd. Goddess Kichakeswar temple is well known.  It is made out of chlorite slabs. The chiefs of Mayurbhanj used to pay homeage to this place. The temple contains beautifully carved sculptures. 

This another very intriguing site. It contains the historic artifacts and ancient sculptures which were found within the area of Mayurbhanj. 

Simlipal National Park and Tiger reserve: 

The Simlipal National Park and Tiger reserve is a protected site as well as carries out Project Tiger initiatives. People plan for wildlife excursions that last for a day to several days. The national reserve has 95 tigers, along with leopards, elephants, crocodiles and 230 species of birds Simplipal National Parks has several waterfalls, the major and well known ones being Barehipani falls (399 meters) and Jordan Falls (150 meters).

There is also a hotspot called Jashipur located at the beginning of the national park. One can find many different types of crocodiles here. 

Baripada railway station, though not a major one, is connected with a fair number of cities. 

Buses to Baripada are easily available from Bhubhneshwar. The buses are air conditioned, non air conditioned, deluxe and semi deluxe. The charges are nominal. You could also rent a taxi.
