Barehipani Falls
Mayurbhanj is a district in the state of Orissa. Simlipal National Park is situated within this district. It is famous for its famous Barehipani Falls which are found in the central region of the national park. Very few falls are as tall as the Barehipani Falls. It is believed to fall from a height of three hundred and ninety nine meters. The falls break into two visible tiers and end up at the pool below.
The falls originate from the river Budhabalanga. The water gushes out from a cliff. The entire course of the fall right from the cliff to the pool is breath taking. Large number of people are seen every year who visit the waterfalls for its mesmerizing beauty.
Since these waterfalls are situated within the protected boundaries of the national park, special care is taken by the Government to preserve them.
Places to visit:
Joranda Falls: These waterfalls are situated close to the Barehipani falls. It is less high than Barehipani falls and achieve a height of 152 meters. This is a type of single thread waterfall.
Both the falls are very violent in nature during the monsoons which is evident from the lack of vegetation around the falls.
How to reach:
By air: Kolkatta is the nearest airport, situated 240 kilometers away.
By rail: The state is well reachable via trains. The nearest rail junction is Balasore which is 6 kilometers away.
By road: The area is also navigable by road, the nearest cities being Rourkela – 160 kms, Jamshedpur – 140 kms and Bhubaneshwar – 300 kms.
