BHIMASHANKAR
This is a beautiful temple of Lord Shiva which is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas in India. Lord
Shankara after getting angry killed Rakshas Tripurasura. The heat prodeced from
their war caused the origin of river Bhima. Hence the name Bhimashankar. This
temple was built in the Nagara style of architecture and dates back to the 18th
century. There are influences from the
Indo Aryan style of architecture. It is believed that an ancient shrine was
erected over a Swayambhu Linga or a Self Emanated Shiva Linga. Thus the Linga
is exactly in the centre of the floor of the Garbagriha literally meaning the
Sanctum. Intricate carvings on the pillars and the doorframes of the temple
tell a story and attract many tourists. Bhimashankar is about 128 km away from
Pune. The route to Bhimashankar is via Manchar. One can go to this place and be
back to Pune in one day. Bhimashankar is just the place to be for nature
lovers, trekkers, jungle lovers and bird watchers.

The Sahyadri Wildlife Sanctuary
The Sahyadri Wildlife Sanctuary is situated in the state of Maharashtra. This Sanctuary is home for the Jumbo size
Indian Squirrel and many other animals and birds. The sanctuary is spread over
an area of 120 sq km on the Western Ghats in the Sahyadri Ranges.
The area receives heavy monsoon rainfall. It is a very popular weekend getaway.
The valley is an awesome combination of shrubs, magical herbs and plants of
different varieties. The Sahyadri Wildlife Sanctuary is situated at a height of
about 2100 to 3800 feet.
