Baba Dhansar
This is a holy place. It is found near a village called Karua at Karua Jheel. It forms part of the Reasi district of the state of Jammu and Kashmir. It is 17 kilometers from Reasi. The actual spot is 200 kilometers from the road.
The myth behind the existence of this spot involves a saint named Dhansar. He was one of the sons of Vasudev who was the human form of Lord Shiva’s serpent king, Sheshnag.
A demon once created havoc on the people of Karua. The people urged Baba Dhansar for help. He then prayed to Lord Shiva. The demon was killed by Lord Shiva. The temples dedicated to Baba Dhansar and Lord Shiva hold importance for the people of Karua. Bathing is not permitted in the Karua Jheel. People however take bath in the downstream which is believed to fulfill their wishes. Hordes of people gather here on the eve of Mahashivratri. A fete is all organized on this occasion.
