Thiruchendur Murugan Temple
It is the prime attraction of Thiruchendur. Lord Murugan and his consorts Valli, Deivanai are presiding deities. It is one of the six holy abode of Lord Murugan. The Lord Murugan is expressed as Senthilandavar. The origin of this temple is unknown but it was mentioned in several vedic scripts and legends. Tall gopuram and lively sculptures are worth visiting in this temple. Major festivals of Lord Murugan are celebrated with pomp and gaiety.
It is an ancient and famous fort associated with several freedom fighters and rulers, especially Veera Pandiya Kattabomman. The fort was partially damaged in 1799 by British. Those who are interested in historical events can find this place as heaven.
Valli’s cave, Melaputhukudi, Kudhirai Mozhitheri and Tuticorin are the other famous picnic spots to rejoice during Thiruchendur tourism.
