If you want to spend your holiday in a peace and tranquility filled ambience then a visit to Sevagram should not be missed at all. The Gandhi ashram located amidst lush green forests rejuvenates the heart and soul of the visitors and is visited by both national as well as international tourists. It is about 8kms from Wardha.
Sevagram’s name holds an esteemed position in the Indian history as the father of our nation, Mahatma Gandhi and his wife Kasturba settled down in this village for about 8 years to serve its people. Hence it is proudly called Sevagram or “the village of service”.
Bapu Kuti and Ba Kuti are constructed with simple materials like bamboo and mud. Palm tree mats are used for sitting purpose. This shows the simplicity of the great Bapu. The art of peacock, Charkha, palm tree, humans and God adorns the walls of the ashram. Inorder to bring down the discrimination on the ground of caste, Gandhiji appointed Harijans as chefs here. Kishore Kuti and Mahadev Kuti are the other prominent huts that worth the visit.
The heat of the pre Independence era can still be experienced here. History buffs and peace lovers should not miss this place for anything.
