Pattadakkal

It is a well-known historical town, located in Bagalkot district of Karnataka. The famed town houses many world heritage sites which are popular for their ancient style of architecture. There are few temple belongs to 8th century are living evidence of finest architectural fusion of ancient India. One can find the marvelous blend of Nagara and Dravidan styles of architecture. These temples were declared as one of the heritage sites in the World by UNESCO in 1987. The clusters of ten temples are the major attraction in Pattadakkal, in which one is dedicated to Jain deity. The first 4 temples are of Nagara style and other four temples are of Dravidian style and remaining two temples are perfect mixture of both Nagara and Dravidian style of architecture. It is an ideal place for those who have interest in archeology. Besides its temples and heritage sites, Pattadakkal is depicted through its festivals such as Banashankari temple festival, Mallikarjuna temple festival, Chalukya’s Utsav and Vrupaksha Car festival are the major carnivals celebrated with pomp and show.

Places to visit

Kashivishwanatha Temple

It is one of the ancient temples of Pattadakal, built during 8th century by Rashtrakutas. It is well known for its architecture.

Galganatha Temple

This is another famed temple of 8th century, houses several small idols of various deities. It is an important Hindus pilgrimage devoted to Lord Shiva.

Sangameshwara Temple

It is the oldest temple of Pattadakal, was built in 696 AD in Chalukya’s period. It is a finest evidence of Dravidian style of architecture and a must visit place.

Other Temples

Jain temple, Mallikarjuna temple and Papanatha temple are other famous temples to visit in Pattadakal.

By Air

Belgaum airport is around 205 km from the village of Pattadakal is the nearest airport.

By Train

Badami railway station is located at a distance of 24 km from Pattadakal is the closest railhead.

By Road

Plenty of state and private bus transportations are available. Pattadakal is well connected to neighboring cities of Karnataka via road.
