Gadag is a city municipal council and a town for Gadag district for state of Karnataka, with also being the administrative headquarters for Gadag District.  Gadag shares joint city administration with Betageri and it's municipality is situated close to 80 km from Dharwad and about 60 km from Hubli on the Gutti-Vasco National Highway.

Gadag History

Gadag has on the North Bagalkot District, on the East Koppal District, on the Southeast Bellary District, on the Southwest Haveri District, on the West Dharwad District, and on the Northwest Belgaum District.  Gadag District was carved out in 1997 after it was split from Dharwad District.  Namely it has five taluks Gadag-Betgeri, Ron, Shirhatti, Nargund and Mundargi. Gadag district is the major area of Kalyani Chalukyas and has many monuments mainly Shiva temples, Jain Basadis Kalyani Chalukyas propagated Jainism and built temples

Gadag Climate

Gadag district has a pleasant and healthy climate.  Summer sets in during February and can last until the May end.  Monsoon season begins in June and lasts until September.  October and November are post monosoon months and this period witnesses a slow rise in day temperatures with considerable amount of rainfall as well.  The winter season sets in from December to mid February.  The district has a pleasant modest weather and is not subjected to extremes of either summer or winter.  The maximum temperature is 37.3 C in the month of April and December with minimum temperature of 16.5 C.
