Badami
Badami is a small town which speaks volume of art and architecture of ancient Karnataka. This historical region is nestled in Bagalkot district. It was a bustling town and a royal capital of Chalukyas and now standing proudly as a popular tourist destination. It was previously known as Vatapi and was found by the great ruler Pulikeshi II in 540 AD. It is saturated with cave temples, forts, carvings, dedications and entryways. Cave Temples
Badami has four most beautiful cave temples which represents the Brahminical style of architecture. These temples are carved out of hills. 2000 steps needs to be climbed to reach this cave. The fourth temple is representing the Jain style. Fist cave is dedicated to Lord Shive and nest two caves are dedicated to Lord Vishnu and fourth cave is devoted to Jain thirthankars.
Agastya Lake
It is a famous lake surrounded by red stone temples and hills. The natural gaps in these red stones helps to climb the nearby hills. People believe that the water of this lake has healing powers. Bhuthanatha temple is located nearby the lake. Interestingly all the caves of Badami are facing this lake. Boating is an joyous tourist activity in this lake.
Badami Fort
A popular fort in Badami, constructed by great ruler Pulikeshi. It has two huge temples for Lord Shiva. Oldest fort belongs to 5th century.
Lad Khan Temple
It is an ancient temple belongs to 7th century, devoted to Lord Shiva. Tourists flocks this temple for its huge Shiva Linga and gigantic towering gateways.it has 12 intrinsically carved pillars. It is the oldest temple in Aihole.
Durga Temple
It is another famous temple dedicated to Goddess Durga. An excellent evidence of Hoysala art and architecture. It is located south to Lad Khan temple and was built during 7th century.

Papanatha temple, Sangameshwara temple, Banshankari temple, Tipu Fort and Archeological museum are other interesting spots to enjoy in Badami.
