Kannur
Kannur is also known as Cannanore is the beach town of Kerala. It is the largest district in northern Malabar. It was one of the top ten tourist destination in Kerala. The neat and tidy beaches are the prime attraction of Kannur. It is the town filled with many temples and always busy in celebrating various festivals throughout the year which attracts thousands of tourists. During festival celebrations, classical theyyam art is performed in various temple which adds to the spirit of Kannur tourism. It is the place of archeological interest, one can see the 16th century St. Angelo fort, once was used as military center in British period. Fort St.Angelo
The triangle shaped fort believed to be built in 1505 by Portuguese and demolished by Dutch. It is popularly known as Kannur Kotta or Kannur Fort by tourists. During British rule, this fort was renovated and used as military center. The grave stone of Dutch commander is seen inside the fort. Beaches
Payyambalam Beach – located 2 km from Kannur, best place to relax and o enjoy evenings. Clean and pristine beach is a secluded location to rejoice panoramic views of sunrise and sunset. It is adorned with beautiful garden and dazzling landscape sculpture of mother and child made by popular sculptor Kanayi Kunhiraman.
Muzhappilangad Beach –located 15 km from Kannur, one of the longest and lavishing beach in Kerala. It is the single drive-in beach in India. The natural shallow water makes this beach ideal for swimming. Just meter away from the shore, one can explore the enthralling beauty of Dharmadan island.
Thalassery Fort and Beach
The magnificent fort is proudly standing about 22 km from Kannur, was built during 16th century by East India Company in British period. Clean and pure Thalassery beach is decorated by lighthouse, holy church, a cemetery and a mansion of collector. Best choice to remain calm and pleasant in midst of lavishing sounds of waves.
