Kannur is also known as Cannanore is the beach town of Kerala. It is the largest district in northern Malabar. It was one of the top ten tourist destination in Kerala. The triangle shaped fort believed to be built in 1505 by Portuguese and demolished by Dutch. It is popularly known as Kannur Kotta or Kannur Fort by tourists. During British rule, this fort was renovated and used as military center. The grave stone of Dutch commander is seen inside the fort. Muzhappilangad Beach –located 15 km from Kannur, one of the longest and lavishing beach in Kerala. It is the single drive-in beach in India. The natural shallow water makes this beach ideal for swimming. Just meter away from the shore, one can explore the enthralling beauty of Dharmadan island.
Thalassery Fort and Beach
The magnificent fort is proudly standing about 22 km from Kannur, was built during 16th century by East India Company in British period.
