KAILASHAHAR

Kailashahar is situated in the north-east area of the country India. It serves as the administrative headquarters of the district of North Tripura of the Indian state of Tripura. Adjacent to the boundary of Bangladesh, this place is located.

The existence of Kailashahar can be traced back to the time between 7th and 9th century. The history of this place is also linked with that of Unakoti. King Jujhar Fa’s successor was a follower of Shiva and he worshipped for him on the River Mau’s beds. The location’s name is Chhambulnagar.

Previously, the name of Kailashahar used to Chhambulnagar or so it is believed. As per mythical stories, it is believed that the Kailash Mountain was the dwelling place for Har otherwise known as Shiva. Thus the name Kailash Har came into being. Later it got changed to Kailashahar. 

Despite of being small in terms of area, still the visitors can observe the cultural mix in the town. Major religions which people generally follow in this town are Hinduism, Islam, Buddhism and Christianity. Visitors coming here during the months of September and October can enjoy the celebrations of Durga Puja and Kali Puja.

The main crowd pulling locations of this spot are Unakoti and Lakhi Narayan. The tea estates are counted as attractions of the town. Tourists can enjoy hiking activities. All round the year people witness a tropical weather. The months of October and November are the ideal time to visit this place.

By air: The nearest air terminal is located in Agartala. 

By rail: The Kumarghat town has the nearest railway station to Kailashahar. 

By road: The town has got good road connections. One can opt for buses, jeeps, taxis or private cars in order to reach this place.
