Jaldapara situated in the Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal. This wildlife sanctuary is located at the foothills of eastern Himalaya on the bank of River Torsa. It is famous for its National park which has a large collection of different varieties of flora and fauna. The foremost attraction of this place is its rare species which are not available anywhere such as one horned rhinoceros, Bengal tiger, Sambar deer, and spotted deer, wild pig, and Bison. Natural beauty of this place is something worth seeing and beyond description. It is the perfect blend of pristine nature and rich varieties of flora and fauna. The tourists can have a glimpse of Indian Bison in this Jaldapara wildlife Sanctuary during early morning and late evening. One can even get to see large varieties of Deers in this Sanctuary. This region is mainly comprised of dry deciduous forest and moist mixed forest with alluvial Savannah. Trees such as Sissoo, Khair, Simul, Siris etc grows here. It is also the place for tree lovers and botanists. Many research works on plants has been done here.
Different varieties of birds are found here, both migratory as well Indian birds can be seen here. It is a temporary home for the migratory birds. Birds such as Green Pigeons, Hornbills, Barbets, Parakeets, Woodpeckers, Cuckoos, Orioles, Drongos, Babblers, and Thrushes are available here. Few migratory birds such as Brahminy ducks, Whistling Teals and Merganser are found during winter only. And few common birds which are the permanent residents of the Sanctuary are Cormorant, Indian Shag, Darter, Egret, Pied Wagtail, River Lapwing, Moorhen, White Breasted Water hen. Elephant Safari is a very well known activity of this place. Tourists explore the Sanctuary on Elephants back and enjoy the ride with sightsee. By AIR Bagdogra is the nearest airport of Jaldapara Wildlife Santuary. Jeep is is always available from the airport.
By TRAIN New Japaiguri is the nearest rail head of Jaldapara. It takes few hours to reach the destination from the railway station and this airport is well connected with all the states.
By BUS Regular bus services are available from all the parts of West Bengal. Bus is the cheapest mode of transportation in West Bengal.
Best time to visit the place
The best time to visit the place is in winter or autumn. One should avoid visiting the place during summer and rainy season. Therefore the ideal time is between October- March.
