Halebid

Halebid is a great temple town and hold significant historical value. It was once served as a glorious capital city of Hoysala Empire during 12th century. It is place to see the eye catching Hoysala temples and sacred Jain shrines. It is living evidence of proud architectural style of Hoysala kingdom. One can find the detailed scroll works made in stones and rock carvings here. It is the place of great archeological interest with much delighting beauty. Hoysaleswara temple, Shantaleshwara temple, Kedareshwara temple and Basadi Halli are prominent attractions of Halebid. There is an archeological temple which displays rare collections of ancient sculptures and numerous antiques. It is one of the must visit place in Karnatak tourism.

Places to visit

Hoysaleshwara Temple

It is a star shaped temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva. This beautiful stone temple was built in the middle of 12th century. The prominent features are marvelous sculptures which are intricately engraved. The temple complex is decorated with several deities and other beautiful sculptures of birds and animals.

Shantaleshwara Temple

It is located in Hoysaleshwara temple complex dedicated to Shanteleswara. It is beautifully nested on a high land made of potstones. The Shiva Lingam in sanctorum is appreciated as perfect sample of  Hindu architecture. Museum with rare collection of beautiful sculptures, gold coins and shining black stones are other attractions.

Kedareswara Temple

It is Chalukya style of temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. One can find this temple as a pinnacle of architecture. It was built in 1319 AD. Plethora od sculptures are beautifully friezes the great epic Ramayana, Bhagavat Gita and Mahabharata.

Basadi Halli

It is group of Jain monasteries and temples.  Highlighting feature is Pillars which are extremely shined and resembles mirrors. It is located closer to Hoysaleswara temple.

Mangalore is the closest domestic airport at 168 km from Halebid. Bangalore international airport is 222 km from Halebid.

By Train

Hassan is the nearest railway station located 27 km from Halebid.

By Road

It is well connected via road. Several state owned and private buses are available to reach Halebid from major cities of Karnataka.

In summer 22-40°C and in winter 10-32°C. October to March is the ideal time to make a visit.
