Belur

Places to visit
Hoysaleshwara Temple
It is a star shaped temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva. This beautiful stone temple was built in the middle of 12th century. The prominent features are marvelous sculptures which are intricately engraved. The temple complex is decorated with several deities and other beautiful sculptures of birds and animals.
Shantaleshwara Temple
It is located in Hoysaleshwara temple complex dedicated to Shanteleswara. It is beautifully nested on a high land made of potstones. The Shiva Lingam in sanctorum is appreciated as perfect sample of Hindu architecture. Museum with rare collection of beautiful sculptures, gold coins and shining black stones are other attractions.
Kedareswara Temple
It is Chalukya style of temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. One can find this temple as a pinnacle of architecture. It was built in 1319 AD. Plethora od sculptures are beautifully friezes the great epic Ramayana, Bhagavat Gita and Mahabharata.
Basadi Halli
It is group of Jain monasteries and temples. Highlighting feature is Pillars which are extremely shined and resembles mirrors. It is located closer to Hoysaleswara temple.
Shravanabelagola
It is the most popular Jain pilgrim, located in between two hills at an attitude of 3000 feet above the sea level. It is well known for the 18 feet tall monolithic statue of Lord Gomateshwara located on the top of Indragiri hills. Mahastambabhisheka is held once in 12 years is a grand festival celebrated here.
Other Places
Pushpagiri Wildlife sanctuary, Yagachi Dam, Chennakeshara temple and Halebid are other important places in Belur.
