 Trip to the Northeastern India should never ever conclude without having visited the eternal bliss on Earth, Gurudongmer Lake. After scaling a height of 18000 feet up the ground level where the vegetation is almost nil you will get to see the icy crystal clean waters of this placid lake which is beautifully packed by snow capped mountains on all the sides. All the physical hardships faced while on journey like the bad roads and low oxygen levels will just vanish off as you catch a glimpse of this immortal paradise, where one gets the feeling as if the lake is the meeting point of earth and heaven. One astonishing feature is that one small portion of the lake will not freeze at severe sub zero temperatures. Budhhists believe that this portion of the lake was touched and blessed by their spiritual leader, Padmasambhava. Sarva Dharma Sthal is a religious place close by. 

 

 At Thangu you can fill your hungry belly before scaling great heights. Hire a Mahindra or a Sumo from Lachen and pack yourself warm with cozy clothes and start off an adventurous 4 hour journey to the enchanting beauty.  Going in groups make the visit safer and thrilling. 

 

 The stay here can last only up to 40 minutes as the oxygen level is very low but the heart rendering ambience prints a permanent picture in the minds of the visitor forever.

One can reach the lake by hiring SUV’s such as Mahindra and Sumo from Lachen and Gangtok.
