Lachen is situated at a height of 8500 feet above the sea level. The plain environment with its calming tranquility attracts many people to come here. Lachen is a much popular and larger vacationing spot amongst the tourists; however, Lachen maintains an appealing purity of its own.
Not more than 200 numbers of homes are present in Lachen, a small village. Previously, the owner of the houses used to dwell in Lachen only during the cold months; during the hot months, they used to go towards the greener grazing fields close to Tibet, in order to feed their yaks. Lachen acts as a base point for starting hiking activities to other locations in the northern part of Sikkim. This place also acts as an entry point for the sacred Guru Dongmar and Tso Lhamu Lake.
During their trip to this amazing place, one can definitely go and see the Lachen Gompa and experience for themselves, the plain and peaceful life of the ‘Lachenpas’. Foreigners are not permitted here; however they can get special permits from beforehand.
HOW TO REACH LACHEN
By Air: The nearest air terminal is located in Bagdogra, which is situated at a distance of 129 Kms from Lachen.
By Road: One can reach this place by buses, private cars or shared jeeps.
