The state of Bihar in India comprises of thirty-eight districts, out of which Purnia District is one. The administrative headquarters of the district of Purnia is located in Purnia town. It is Purnia Divisions component. The north boundary of the district is the River Ganges and it stretches up to the country of Nepal. The city is a host to the bases of the Indian Army, Border Security Force and the SSB. The cantonment region of the Indian Air Force contains the Purnia citys airport, known as the Purnea Airport.

Purnia History
A deep and resonant history as well as a magnificent past is retained by this district. Purnia used to be an out-of-the-way military region during the Mughal period. Shielding the regions frontiers against the tribal attacks from the north and east directions, used to consume the major part of the revenue collected by the province of Purnia. In 1757, following captivation of Calcutta, a revolt was launch against Siraj-ud-Daulah by a regional ruler. The British brought this region under its control during the year 1765, alongside the remainder of Bengal. Situated in Purnea, Ramakrishna Mission is renowned for its exclusive architecture. With due religious dedication and respect, in April month, celebration of Durga Puja takes place. Mata Puran Devi, the most ancient temple is also renowned in the city. The distance of the temple from the city is just a mere 5 kilometers. It is also believed that from the name of the temple itself the name Purnia has been derived. Again another presumption states that Purna-Aranya was the name of the place many years back and thus came into existence the term Purnea. The name Purna-Aranya means complete jungle.
Purnia Culture
The Darghah of Hazrat Mustafa Jamalul Haque Bandagi, Chimni Baza is also situated in the city. In the north-eastern portion of the district, customs, literacy, compassion, secularism and religious morale are being shared and taught by the Darghah, form the time is has been constructed.

The months of November to February experiences a cold winter. The months between March and June witness a hot summer.
