Pilibhit History
Pilibhit formed part of the Bareilly division in 103 when British took over Rohilkhand. In 1833, the part was detached from Bareilly but again joined it in 1841. Jahanabad, Pilibhit and Puranpur were combined in 1871 to form the Pilibhi sub-division. It became a district in 1879. The parganas of Pilibhit, Jahanabad & Bisalpur was formed into separate Tehsils once the British took over. Puranpur was joined with Khutar. In 1824, Bilaspur became a single area and consisted of the Parganas of Bilaspur and Maurari. Jahanabad and Richha were joined to form district Pareva and Pilbhit was joined with Bilheri. Pilibhit was the headquarters. In 1851, Bilheri and the other Tarai Paraganas were taken under direct management. In 1863, Richha was joined with the new Baheri Tehsil. In 1865, Pilibhit was assigned Jahanabad and Puranpur. Puranpur became a subtehsil under Pilibhit in 1871. The promotion of Puranpur into a full Tehsil occurred in 1879, while Bisalpur throughout remained a seprate subdivision. Three Tehsils and four Parganas make up the new area.
Pilibhit Climate
Three distinct seasons are experienced in this region-summer, monsoon and winter. Summers last from end of March to June. Temperature ranges from 36 to 42 degrees. Unlike the other places in the Himalayan Plateau, the hottest month of Pilibhit is May. Monsoons hit the place by mid June. Though the temperatures plunge in this month, the summer heat can be accompanied by high humidity. Monsoons bring heavy thundershowers in July and August and provide relief from the hot weather. The annual rainfall is around 723mm. August is the wettest month of the year. In 1967, Pilibhit received a record of 17 consecutive days of rainfall. The temperatures start to fall as the monsoons recede. Pilibhit experiences winter from November to February. It is also the most pleasant time of the year. The day temperature reaches 14 degrees while the night temperature drops to 7.
