It Champawat town was a famous tourist destination and once it was served as capital during Chand dynasty. It has a rich history and a valuable historical place to explore the ancient India. It holds enormous religious values too. Some legends claim that this is the place where the incarnation of Vishnu as tortoise ‘Kurmavatar’ has appeared. It is an important religious destination which attracts several devotees throughout the year. The complete region is full of temples. These temples are beautifully constructed and exotically decorated. Baleshwar temple is famous among other temples with presideing deity Lord Shiva. It is a stone carved temple. Kranteshwar Mahadev temple is another attracting feature in Champawat.

It is a place of historical and mythological value, located around 14 km from Champawat at an altitude of 5597 feet above the sea level on the banks of River Lohawati. It is well known for beautiful burans flowers.

It is an advaita ashram around 9km from Lohaghat and 22 km from Champawat. It is located at an elevation of 1940 meters above the sea level at the backdrop of majestic Himalayas. Swami Vivekananda has shifted his publication office from Madras to here in 1898.

Devidhura, Barahi temple,  Banasur ka kila, Kranteshwar Mahadev temple, Baleshwar temple amd Chaumu temple are other notable places.

Tanakpur is the nearest railway station and well served by trains from Lucknow, Shahjahanpur and Philibhit.

There are good numbers of buses available from Nainital to reach Champawat.

In summer 32 to 37 C and in winter 3 to 22 C and it is best visited throughout the year.
