Parbhani is a district in the state of Maharashtra. It was earlier called Prabhavatinagar. It is one of the eight districts of the Marathwada region. The district headquarters are situated at Parbhani City. It is the administrative headquarters of Parbhani District.
Parbhani district is the approximate center of the state of Maharashtra. Mumbai lies to the western Maharashtra of Parbhani. Aurangabad is the nearest major city. Other cities of Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh are well connected to Parbhani by buses. Parbhani is an important Railway junction on the Mumbai-Parbhani-Secunderabad and Parli-Parbhani-Bangalore lines.
Shri Shirdi Sai Baba who is considered the reincarnation of the Dattatraya in Hindu mythology is supposed to be born here. The place is called Pathri, which is about 45 kilometers from Parbhani. There is a Jain temple at Jintur which is 40 kilometers. The only place where Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva are worshipped together is at a village called Mudgal. A famous Narshima Temple is present at Pokharni which is 19 kilometers south of Parbhani. The temple of Shri Keshavraj Babasaheb who is the guru of of Shri SaiBaba is located at Selu which is 45 kilometers from Aurangabad. Selu is an important railway station on the Mumbai-Secundrabad rail line. Andh is the major language spoken.
Parbhani History
There was a treaty between Sadashivrao Bhau and Nizam of Hyderabad. According the conclusion at the Battle of Udgir, the Peshwa received revenue from the town. After this, the Peshwa went to fight the Battle of Panipat in 1761. The Sultans, the Mughals and the Nizam ruled the place for over 650 years. The town remained a part of the Hyderabad State under the rulership of the Nizam until Operation Polo of the Indian Army in 1948. It joined the Indian Union after that. It remained a part of Hyderabad until 1956. When the state of Hyderabad was broken up, Parbhani and the adjacent towns were transferred to the multilingual Bombay State. When Maharashtra was formed in 1960, Parbhani became a part of the state. Historically name Parbhani is derived from "Prabhavati Nagari" named after goddess "Prabhavati" meaning Goddess with great aura.

Motha Maruti, Shree Supari Hanuman Mandir, Jabreshwar. Pardeshwar Temple and Beleshwar Mahadev Temple are notable temples in the district of Parbhani. Near the temple of Lord Shani, there is a temple called Naag Temple. Urus is an important festival where people of all religions come together and celebrate for a week in Parbhani district Pathri tehasil having three important places: Sai Baba of Shirdi temple in Pathri, Datta temple in Gunj and Renuka Devi temple at Gondgaon.
