Hanumangarh is a district in Rajasthan, which is a state in the western part of India. The districts headquarters is located in the town of Hanumangarh. The majority portion of the population speaks Punjabi in the northern, western and eastern areas. A dialect of Rajasthani language, Bagri is the state language. Usage of English is also there. The district is situated in the northernmost part of Rajasthan. It shares its border with Punjab State on the north, with Haryana State on the east, Churu District of Rajasthan on the south and with Ganganagar District of Rajasthan on the west. Farming is the major occupation of the people in this district. Major crops include rice, bajra, cotton, sonamukhi, wheat and vegetables. The 31st district of Rajasthan is this district of Hanumangarh. On 12th July 1994, this district was created from Sri Ganganagar District. Previously, Hanumangarh used to be one of the Sri Ganganagars Tehsils. The archaeological site of Kalibangan and Pallu as well as the Bhatner Durg, which s a fort is located in this district. It is the Indias strongest and oldest Durg.
Hanumangarh History
Hanumangarh used to be Bhati Rajputs kingdom. Hence its earlier name was Bhatner. When Raja Shardul Singh won it, its name was changed to Shardulgarh. It was christened as Hanumangarh which means the Fort of Hanuman, the Monkey God. It was so named since it was won on Tuesday, which is the ominous day for Hindu God Hanuman. Bhatner fort is located in the middle of Hanumangarh Town. It is a 900 year old fort and its description can be found in Aaine-Akbari. On the banks of the Ghaggar River, near the town a famous Bhadrakali temple is situated.
The appearance of the area around Hanumangarh is quite old. Along with a number of cons. The place has yielded a number of terracotta decorative tiles in the late Kushana Empire. Two terracotta capitals have been discovered. It is at the depth of 15 from the top of the mound having stepped pyramids along their edges.
Hanumangarh Tourism
Bhupat son of king Bhati of Jaisalmer built the ancient fort, which is situated on the bank of river ghaggar in the year 295. The famous Tarain war which was fought between Mohammed Gouri and Prithviraj Chouhan is the present Talwara Jheel area of the district. The fact was revealed by research. Qutubuddin Aibak, Teymoor and Akbar also ruled the Bhatner. Teymoor wrote Tuzuk-e-Teymoory which is his biography. In that he has written that he never saw such a strongly built and secured fort in Hindustan. After defeating Bhatis, Emperor Soorat Singh of Bikaner captured Bhatner in the year of 1805. He names Bhatner as Hanumangarhh since the day he got victory was a certain Tuesday.
