Faridkot
Faridkot is positioned in South-West of Punjab. It is a municipal
council & divisional headquarter at Faridkot, which situated at at 30.68°N latitude and 74.74°E longitude. Faridkot was originated by Raja Mokalsi, who
was the grandson of Rai Manj – a Bhatti chief of Rajasthan & name Mokalhar
after his name. One eminent event linked
with Hazrat Baba Sheikh Farid,who is renowned Sufi Saint & ardent lover of
God & also known with the name of ‘Baba Farid ShakarGanj’. Once, he was
grasped by the soldiers of Raja Mokalsi & to retain bonded labour for the
running construction work of the fort.
While working at the site, the basket, which full of soil being carried
by Baba Farid was floating over his head. After seeing this miracle, Raja
repented on his folly & touched the feet of Baba Sheikh Farid & begged
bestows. Since, the name of city changed from Mokalhar to Faridkot.
Faridkot has a both significant aspects of religious & has a
rich historical value. The bani (Holy scripts) of Baba Sheikh Farid ji is mentioned
in the holy book (Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ji) of Sikh religion. At this place
Bhallan-an ancestor of the Faridkot principality, was an ardent lover of Guru
Hargobind Singh ji & he helped the Guru during the battle of Mehraj. The
city Faridkot was one of princely state in Punjab. Additionally,
Faridkot plays the vital role in Educational & Industrial field. Baba Farid
Medical University is located in this city which conduct the examinations of Medical Courses from all over the Punjab.
Moreover , Agriculture is the exalted practiced economic activities. The major
crops such as paddy, wheat & cotton are produced & Various Industries
running in this region which includes the industries of Manufacturing of
Machine Tools, Sewing Machines & Cotton handling etc.
SIGHTSEEING PLACES
GURDWARA TILA BABA FARID: Gurdwara Baba Farid is an antique edifice which positioned near
the Qila Mubarak, Faridkot. It is one of the most significant place for worship
which welcome all the religions. Numerous devotees & travellers visited
this pious place, especially on every Thursday, when followers of Sikh religion
offer prayers & pay their respect to great Sufi Saint. Sacred music (Shabad
Kirtan) solemnize whole the days & offer Langer (Free Kitchen) to all the
visitors & devotees.
GURDWARA GODARI SAHIB: Gurdwara Godari Sahib is situated at the distance of four
kilometres on the Faridkot-Kotkapura passage. A holy tank was constructed at
this place which named as Sant Sarover.
DARBAR GANJ: Darban Ganj is a renowned astonishing bungalow, which is famed
tourist sight with the well laid garden. Nowadays, this bungalow is converted
into the Circuit House (P.W.D. Rest house).Hence, This is also the dwelling
place of the Officer Of Commissioner, Faridkot division.
RAJ MAHAL: Raj Mahal is one of the eminent place in the Faridkot. This is
also well-known as a Royal Place or Balbir Palace. It is dispersed in more than
15 acres of area with the tapered minarets & pointed spires which
overwhelming meadow along semi desert area of the Punjab. This is marvellous
pattern of French Design & Mirror work.
QILA MUBARAK: Qila Mubarak is one of the famous fort & visiting place in
Faridkot. This place is renowned for its beautifully carved architecture. This
fort is built by professional architects & fort designed in European style.
VICTORIA CLOCK TOWER: Victoria Clock Tower is the tallest tower in the city. It is
positioned towards the North direction of Raj Mahal. This tower is well famous
with the name of Ghanta Ghar & which consider as a chief landmark of the
city. This clock tower is 60 feet’s long with four giant clocks facing in four
directions.
BABA FARID CULTURE CENTER OR ART GALLERY: Baba Farid Culture Centre is fashionable an art gallery &
cultural center In the city. This centre consist of District Library, Amusement
Park, Botanical Park, Auditorium , Open Air Theatre, Solar Energy Park &
Canteen.
Gurdwara Guru Ki Dhab: Guru Gobind Singh visited this place. It was known as DOda Tal. It is about 12 kilometers away from Faridkot.
Gurdwara Tibbi Sahib: Guru Gobind Singh Ji trained here along with other Sikhs and prepared himself for Jaitu Morcha. An annual ceremony is held in the fond memory of the martyrs.

BY AIR:: Faridkot don’t has an airport. The nearest International airport is
Rajasansi International Airport, Amritsar,
Which is located around 125 kms from the city. The Amritsar airport is well
linked with the major cities of the country & overseas too. Amritsar
airport receives flights from Toronto, London, Tehran, Dubai, Muscat, Abu Dhabi
& Delhi etc.
BY TRAIN: Faridkot railway station that is
well connected to major cities of India such as Mumbai, New Delhi, Jaipur,
Bathinda & Ferozpur etc. Travelling by rail is popular option to reach
easily.
BY BUS: Faridkot connected by roads with
Himachal Pardesh, Haryana, Rajasthan & many cities in Punjab such as
Ludhiana, Amritsar , Bathinda etc.
