Previously Bharuch was known as Broach in India. It is a district in the southern part of the Gujarat peninsula. It is located on the west coast of state of Gujarat. It has a size and population comparable to that of Greater Boston. The Narmada River vents into the Gulf of Khambat through its lands. The river gave inland access to the kingdoms and empires located in the central and northern parts of the sub-continent of India. Bharuch is the oldest city of Gujarat. It is situated at the mouth of the holy river, Narmada. The administrative headquarter of Bharuch District is Bharuch itself. It is a municipality of more than 1, 50,000 inhabitants. A number of trades have flourished in Bharuch, since it is a major seaport city. The city is located between Vadodara and Surat. It derived its name from Bhrigukachchha, which was the residence of the great saint Bhrigu Rishi. It was later abridged to Bharuch. In other regions also, the priests of Bharuch were famous for their learning. Agnihotri and Samvedi were two learned priests of Shukaltirtha. As per the mythological stories, they were famous up to Kashi in the northern India.

Bharuch History

Ratuprasad Nathalal Bhatt of Bharuch took part in all the freedom movements. He was imprisoned. Vinodchandra Chunilal Shah participated in �Savinaya Kaanoon Bhang� movement. Among some of the many people who had devotedly served the freedom fighters, Chunilal Dharamlal Shah of Amod and Chhotubhai Mitilal Patel of Tegava village were two of them. Tribhuvandas Purushottamdas Luhaar of Matar village took part in non co-operation movement in the year 1920. Desaibhai Bakorbhai Patel of Kahanava village was a particiant in the historical Dandi Kuch. Some of the others, who participated in all freedom movements in the district are Nathuram Kashiram Bhatt of Raima village, Yashvantray Rajaram Joshi of Malanpore village of Hansot district, Shanabhai Jhaverbhai Patel of Uber village, Vitthalbhai Ranchhodabhai Patel of Sarbhan village, Raysangh Dabhai Parmar and Vishnu Dattatrey Bhoder of Bajodara village along with Chhotubhai Purani. Surajben hardev Banarasi got renowned as the eading lady freedom fighter and female worker. She was in the village of Hansot Taluka n the year 1905.

Surajben Hardev Banarasi was imprisoned for taking part in the freedom movement. She played a significant role to the uplift of the women and activities of creative programs. Bharuch district had participated actively in various freedom struggles like the other districts of Gujarat. It had suffered loss of property and lives of their citizens. Almost all the talukas of Bharuch district had enlightened their people about political and national spirit by participating in freedom struggle through local leadership. History is the testimony of the activities of uplifting of the people by implementing the creative programs.

Bharuch Culture

People of this town follow many religions. A sense of harmony and co-existence usually prevail without incident. However, this delicate social fabric has broken down in the past due to some situations. In the present day, the city is regarded as a great example of communal equality. Bharuch is a renowned tirtha,which is also known as Bhrigu Tirtha in many of Hindu Puranas. It is a host to huge number of temples along the river side.

Bharuch Climate

Bharuch has a tropical savanna climate. The weather is moderated strongly by the Arabian Sea. The summer ranges from early March to June. The hottest months are April and May. The average maximum temperature is 40 degree Celsius. Monsoon starts in late June. By the end of September the city receives about 800 millimeters of rain. During those months the average maximum temperature remains about 32 degree Celsius. The monsoon retreats in the months of October and November. Winter starts in December and ends in later February. The average temperature remains around 23 degree Celsius. The Narmada basin area is very often flooded by the heavy monsoon rains. In the past the city has seen major floods. After the damming of the Narmada, the floods hve been controlled.
