The British moved the first cavalry from Mominabad to Aurangabad to relieve 3rd cavalry which had marched to Malegaon, and was the first regiment to show signs of disaffection. The course of events was told to the authorities at Hyderbad by express. A troop of soldiers marched from Pune to Aurangabad upon order. The artillery also gained momentum but it soon flickered away owing to the rumor of the Bombay troops marching towards Aurangabad. The men of the cavalry also returned to their posts. A Dafadar named Mir Fida Ali shot his commanding officer, Captain Abbott. For this act of his, he was tried by a drum-head, court-martialed and hanged.
