Kodachaadri

Kodachaadri is a beautiful dense green forest with high mountain peak, located at an altitude of 1843 meters above the sea level. This abundance raw beauty of nature is a part of Western Ghats. The deciduous forest is a natural habitat of variety of endangered wildlife species. It serves as homage for Tiger, Panther, Languor, Emerald pigeon and many more. It is an amazing backdrop of Kollur Moogambika Temple. The mountain peak is surrounded by Shola forest is rich in flora. One can see variety of plants, shrubs, trees and flowers all over the forest. To add to is beauty, there are some forest temples located namely Sarvanja Peetha rock temple and a famous Moogambika temple.  Apart from its scenic nature and surroundings, it is a wonderful place for trekkers as the mountain peak in the middle of forest offers thrilling and adventurous trekking. Nagara Fort, Hindumane waterfalls and Traveler’s Bungalow are other interesting places to visit in and around Kodachaadri. Kollur is the nearby hot picnic spot to hang on.

Nagara Fort

It is 25 km from Kodachaadri. The ancient fort belongs to 18th century. The fort is located in scenic landscapes which are further beautified by backwater of Linganamakki Dam of Sharavathi River.

Hidlumane Waterfalls

It is located in deep forest and it is reachable to those who love adventurous trekking as there is only a bridle path is available to reach this waterfalls

Other Places

Arasinagundi waterfalls, Belakallu Theertha and Jadkal are nearby waterfalls. Kollur and Mudur are other popular nearby picnic destinations.

How to reach Kodachaari

By Air

Mangalore international airport is the nearest airport to Shimoga, located at a distance of 140 km. From Shimoga one can take local transport vehicles to reach Nagodi village. From Nagodi village trekking starts to reach Kodachaadri.

By Train

Shimoga has its own railhead which is well connected to major Indian cities. From there local transportations are available to reach Nagodi.

By Road

Car and bus travel is not allowed as the extremely steep curves and uneven surface of roads are difficult to maneuver. Local jeeps are available which are considered safe to travel to reach Kodachaadri.

Weather

In summer 22-37°C and in winter 19-32°C. October to March is the best time to plan a visit to Kodachaadri.

Regular bus services are available from Kollur to many nearby cities of Karnataka.
