Udupi district in the state of Karnataka and it was shaped in August 1997. The three Northern taluks, Udupi, Kundapur, and Karkal were split from Dakshina Kannada to create Udupi district.  Udupi district is bounded in the North by Uttara Kannada district, in the South by Dakshina Kannada, in the Northeast by Shimoga, and in East by Chikamagalur, and on West, one can find Arabian sea.  Udupi is well known for Udupi food created at Ashta Matha, i.e., eight Matts and Sri Krishna Temple.  Tulu is the majorly spoken language in Udupi.

Udupi a land of ethereal beauty sandwiched between the verdant mountains of the Western Ghats on the East and the enormous calm Arabian Sea on the West.  This new district, shaped out of the erstwhile Dakshina Kannada, which was more rightly called "Parashurama Srishti", summarizes the vast cultural heritage.  Udupi is famous for its spiritual fervour and vividity of diverse cultural heritage.  Udupi, known in other places as a Temple City around the world over to the millions of experts of food as the origin of Udupi Hotels.  It is best known as the seat of Madhwa resurgence, established by the sage Madhwacharya, outcome of which are Ashtamathas, located in the famous Car Street, surrounding the Sri Krishna Temple.

Udupi Climate

During summers the temperature reaches up to 40 C and in winters it is usually between 32 C and 20 C. Monsoon sets in from June to September with rainfall average about 4000mm annually.

Udupi Temples

Udupi is the place where Sri Madhwacharya,one of the supreme proponents of the Vaishnava faith began his philosophical journey. Kuthpady is known for the Subramanya temples, which are visited annually by thousands of pilgrims during Subramanya Shrasthi, which falls in November December.  It is also home to Brahma Vishnu Maheshwara Temple atyayuga Yogashrama and Ramakrishna Bhajana Mandira.
